GOLDEN STATE
For my Thesis at Parsons School of Design for my BFA in Photography in May of 2021, I made this book. I pair my documentations of addiction and recovery with iterations of the lived experience to provide a fuller, more nuanced picture. The iterative works speak to the state of the mind one is in when stuck in cycles of addiction.
By taking a multi-disciplinary approach to the subject, I can broach the topic of addiction and recovery touching upon subtleties not necessarily possible through solely documentary photography. This is in opposition to the black-and-white mentality (either through the lens of glorification, or one of inhumane disgust) that is often used to look at this subject.
